CAN YOU OFFER THESE CATS A HOME?

  SENIOR KITTIZENS

Please think about offering a home to one of our older cats. These cats are so often overlooked.

Older cats become homeless for a variety of reasons. It can be partnership break up or an essential move into rented or sheltered accommodation or into a care home. Sometimes it is through the death of an owner and there is no one to take on care of the cat. It may even be left to fend for itself and may  wander off and become a stray. Whatever the reason, it is very sad when an older cat that has been much loved suddenly finds itself with no one to care for it.

There are several benefits to adopting an older cat. Unlike a kitten or very young cat the personality is already formed so you know exactly what you are getting. Older cats are usually calmer, steadier and less demanding than younger cats. Usually all they need to keep them happy and contented is food, warmth and love. Very many cats now live until their late teens and an increasing number into their twenties. They make wonderful companions, particularly for an older person, yet they are so often overlooked and spend many months waiting for a new home.

We have recently taken into our care several older cats .Please take time to read about them and don't just dismiss them out of hand because they are older.

                      RUSTY - ATTRACTIVE BRINDLE TORTIE

Rusty was living with her elderly owner who was over 90 years of age. This lady recently passed away so Rusty has been left homeless.

Rusty is about 14 years old. She is a brindle tortie and is very friendly when you get to know her.

One of our volunteers was feeding her whilst her owner was in hospital.  She tells us:-

When I first started to feed Rusty she was a little shy so I restricted my contact to a few gentle strokes. A month later and what a difference! She now turns up to greet me and raises herself against my leg to rub against me. if I sit down she's immediately on my lap and, after getting herself settled and quite a few head rubs, she curls up for a cat nap. She also often lies by my side. She's not a very demanding cat - food, company and access to the outside are rewarded with a great amount of love, companionship and affection. She is an ideal cat for a quiet household.

Rusty is now in our care waiting for a loving new home of her own.

                  ANCHO -  CHOCOLATE  BRITISH  SHORTHAIR

Ancho is 12 years old. She is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. She has been driven out of the sitting room of her home by the young terrier that now lives there and she is living a lonely existence in the bath or on top of the fridge freezer! She likes to sit on a lap and craves affection. When the dog is asleep she bravely goes into the sitting room but, because she always announces her arrival with a miaow, the dog wakes up and a chase ensues. She mostly stays indoors in the winter but will wander outside in summer when the doors are open. She doesn't stay out for long and never goes far. Ancho is longing for a home where she can be the only pet and where she can receive the love and attention she both craves and deserves.

Sandy is thought to be a Burmese. He needs a new home because his owner is going abroad to work. He is very good humoured and affectionate and very playful. He is possibly about 11 years old. When his owner goes home he follows her around patting her ankles and playing pretend ambush, very much like a big kitten.

KANDI - AS SWEET AS CANDY

Kandy  is 14 years old but she doesn't know it - she has you believing she is half her age. She is named Kandi because she is as sweet as  ..... (candy). Kandi is so adorable and she loves children. Her carer says she reckons if she had on a dress and a pair of pumps she would be off playing with the kids and she chats and chats and chats!
